What are RSS feeds?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds are a convenient way to keep up with new content on your favorite website. Multnomah County Library uses RSS feeds to deliver information about new books, DVDs, music CDs, audio books, etc. to your desktop via a news reader.
How do I sign up for RSS feeds?
- Select a news reader service. We suggest Bloglines, a free webbased reader that is easy to use.
- Create an account. You just need an e-mail address and a password to do so on Bloglines.
- Once you have an account, you can sign up for Multnomah County Library feeds.
- Go to the feeds list and click on one of the
buttons, New Fiction for example, and copy the resulting web address. - In Bloglines, click the Add button, paste the feed web address into the box, and click Subscribe. MCL New Fiction will appear in your list of feeds.
- To unsubscribe from an RSS feed in Bloglines, click on the feed that you no longer want then click on the Unsubscribe button on the right. A prompt will appear asking, Unsubscribe From This Blog? Click OK and the feed will disappear.
Most news readers work similar to Bloglines, but some news readers automatically detect the feed when you click on the link, making subscribing even easier.
Where can I find an RSS news reader?
Some other popular readers are Newsgator, Google Reader, and SharpReader.
