Who can get a card

You may get a free library card if you are a resident of Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington or Hood River counties in Oregon; or Clark, Skamania and Klickitat counties in Washington; or if you live in Camas, Woodland or Yale, Washington.

Libraries in these areas belong to the Metropolitan Interlibrary Exchange (MIX) and have a reciprocal borrowing agreement. Residents within the boundaries of MIX may use any public library covered by the agreement. Each library system you use will ask you to apply for a separate library card. Rules and fees may vary between systems. For information on other MIX libraries, visit Library Information Network of Clackamas County, Washington County Cooperative Library Services, Hood River County Library and Ft. Vancouver Regional Library District.

If you live outside of these reciprocal agreement areas, you may register for a one–year library card for a fee of $70.00 per household

.

Responsibilities

Multnomah County Library expects you to return all materials on or before the due date, to pay promptly the fines or damages for which you are responsible and to give immediate notice of change in your address. Unpaid charges may be turned over to a collection agency.

You are responsible for any item that anyone checks out on your card. If your card is lost or stolen, report the loss at once by phone (503.988.5342) or in person.

Your library card provides personal access to dozens of subscription databases, for articles from newspapers, magazines and other sources, from outside the library. Access to these databases is for personal use only and may not be used by another person, group or institution.

Parents and legal guardians are responsible for deciding what books and other library materials are appropriate for their children and teenagers. This policy reflects the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, which states that "...a person's right to use a library should not be abridged because of origin, age, background or views." The library may contain books and other materials that some parents find inappropriate for their own children and teenagers. Multnomah County Library encourages parents to help their children and teenagers select library resources in keeping with their family's values.
