Children who enter school with early literacy skills are better able to benefit from the reading instruction they receive once they enter school. The National Research Council recommends that children enter school with 6 specific early literacy skills that serve as the foundation for learning to read and write.
The "Help Your Child Get Ready to Read" poster outlines these important skills. Posters measure 24" x 36" and can be purchased for $20.
Mini posters (8 1/2" x 11") are also available for $15, and come in packages of 50.

Based on research from the American Library Association's Every Child Ready to Read @ your libraryŽ training program, this DVD defines the six early literacy skills that children need before they enter school and shows portions of 10 library storytimes infused with early literacy fun for children, and early literacy information for their families. The DVD includes a guide with suggested activities and discussion questions that will deepen the storytime presenter's understanding of incorporating early literacy concepts in storytime.
