New Libraries

Kenton Library

Location: 8226 N. Denver St., Portland

This new neighborhood library will serve Multnomah County residents in the North Portland neighborhood. The existing leased building is being expanded to a total of 6,000 square feet, housing approximately 20,000 volumes. This library will be open the same hours as neighborhood libraries of similar size.

Construction has been under way since early August. Seismic upgrading to the building is currently under way. The roofing contractor is now working on replacing the roof and adding a roof to the building addition. A new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system; ADA accessibility; and new lighting will also be features of this project. In December and early January, new shelving, furniture and fixtures will be installed. We expect the new library to open early in 2010.

Troutdale Library

Location: 2441 S.W. Cherry Park Rd., Troutdale (in the Cherry Park Market Center)

This new neighborhood library will serve residents in east Multnomah County.  The existing leased space of 6,000 square feet, housing approximately 20,000 volumes, will be renovated to meet the requirements of a branch library building.  When it opens, the library will be open the same hours as neighborhood libraries of similar size.

The firm of Hennebery Eddy Architects has completed the construction documents, and we are now entering into the bidding phase of the project. We expect to hire a contractor and begin construction of the tenant improvements soon after the first of the year. Troutdale Library will open in late spring of 2010.
